Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about working with Biz Kellam Photography? This page covers the most common questions about Professional Headshots, Branding Content, Visual Marketing Systems, and Generations Family Portraits on O‘ahu.
The goal is simple: clear answers before you inquire, a guided experience when you do, and photographs or content assets that are created with purpose instead of panic.
About the Portrait Experience
-
The consultation is where we talk through why you need the photographs, how they will be used or displayed, who will be involved, and what you want the experience to accomplish.
We may also discuss wardrobe, location, timing, hair and makeup, artwork, and any concerns you have about being photographed.
You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what to choose. I help you determine what makes sense before we plan the session.
-
My approach is calm, guided, and intentional. I don’t rush sessions or leave people guessing what to do. I offer simple direction throughout so clients can relax, feel supported, and be present rather than focused on how they look or what they’re “supposed” to do.
-
No. Most of the people I photograph feel unsure in front of the camera.
I guide you through body language, posture, positioning, and expression using small, clear adjustments throughout the session. Nothing is left for you to guess, and nothing should feel stiff or performative.
The goal is to help you look confident, comfortable, and like yourself on a very good day.
-
Yes. Professional hair and makeup may be added to headshot, branding, and family portrait sessions whenwhen my trusted freelance hair and makeup artist is available.
The goal is a natural, polished, camera-ready appearance, not heavy makeup or making you look like somebody else. Services may include controlling shine, evening skin tone, grooming hair, and taming flyaways. Hair and makeup is appropriate for men and women, but it is completely optional.
Because the artist is an independent professional, I will first contact them to confirm availability for your selected session date. Once confirmed, the artist will contact you directly to discuss the details, preparation, timing, services, and pricing. Payment is made directly to the hair and makeup artist. Additional preparation time may be needed before photography begins.
-
No. I photograph a limited number of sessions so each one feels unhurried and considered. This allows time for comfort, flexibility, and genuine connection rather than moving quickly from pose to pose.
Generations Family Portraits
-
Generations Family Portraits are multi-generation family portraits created with parents, grandparents, kūpuna, adult children, grandchildren, and extended family. These sessions are designed to preserve connection, family history, and the people who matter most through portraits that become heirloom wall art and legacy albums.
-
Include the people whose presence matters to your family story. That may be grandparents, kūpuna, parents, adult children, grandchildren, siblings, spouses, cousins, or extended family visiting O‘ahu. The goal is not just one group photo. It is creating portraits that show connection across generations.
-
The best location is one that feels meaningful, comfortable, and accessible. For families with grandparents or kūpuna, I usually recommend a home, shaded outdoor area, resort property, or location with easy parking and minimal walking. Comfort matters because relaxed people make better portraits.
-
Yes. Generations Family Portrait sessions can include the full extended family, smaller family groups, grandparents with grandchildren, parents with adult children, siblings, couples, and individual portraits. These combinations are planned before the session so the final collection feels complete, not chaotic.
-
Artwork planning begins with how you want the portraits to live in your home and family.
I help you consider wall space, room scale, portrait groupings, album storytelling, and which images should be preserved together. You do not have to guess at sizes, arrangements, or what will work best.
The goal is to create finished artwork that feels personal, intentional, and worthy of being passed down.
-
Family logistics can change, especially when travel, elders, children, and real life are involved.
If one family member cannot attend, we may adjust the planned portrait combinations and continue with the people who are present.
If the absence changes the purpose of the entire session, we will discuss whether rescheduling is appropriate under the session agreement.
-
Generations Family Portraits are created with finished artwork in mind.
Most families choose heirloom wall art, legacy albums, or a combination of both so the portraits can be lived with, shared, and passed down.
After seeing your images, I help you choose the portraits and artwork that best fit your home, family story, and what you want future generations to have.
Professional Headshots
-
A professional headshot is a clean, polished portrait created for credibility, approachability, and first impressions. Branding Content is a larger visual content library designed to show your work, personality, process, team, space, products, services, and business story across multiple platforms.
-
A professional headshot session includes a consultation, wardrobe guidance, location planning, on-location photography, body-language and expression coaching, and a private image review.
The portraits you select are professionally finished and retouched so they look polished, believable, and appropriate for how they will be used.
-
Wear clothing that supports how you want to be seen professionally. Solid colors, clean lines, and well-fitting pieces usually photograph best. I help guide wardrobe choices so your clothing feels like you, supports your goals, and does not steal the whole show.
-
Retouching is polished and believable, not plastic.
Selected portraits may include adjustments to temporary blemishes, shine, flyaways, skin tone, and minor distractions. The goal is to help you look rested, confident, and professionally presented without removing the features that make you look like you.
-
Professional headshot sessions are photographed on location throughout Honolulu and O‘ahu. This may be your office, home, workplace, meeting space, or another setting that supports your professional image. Location is discussed during the consultation so the session fits your goals and usage needs.
-
Professional headshot sessions start at $290. Most headshot clients invest between $600 and $1,200, depending on the number of finished portraits selected and how the images will be used.
Request a Consultation to discuss what makes sense for your professional needs.

-
After the session, you will review your images and select the portraits you want professionally finished.
Delivery timing depends on the number of images selected and the level of retouching required. Your expected completion date will be confirmed during the image review so you are not left wondering when your portraits will arrive.
Branding Content & Visual Marketing Systems
-
Branding Content is a custom visual content library created to help your business be seen, trusted, and chosen. It may include business portraits, team images, food, product, interior, architecture, short-form video, reels, commercial-style clips, and other image and video assets designed for real business use.
-
A professional headshot is usually one polished portrait for first impressions. Branding Content is more expansive. It shows who you are, what you do, how your business works, what you offer, and why people should trust you before they ever inquire.
-
A Visual Marketing System is a planned collection of image and video assets created for your website, Google Business Profile, social media, email marketing, ads, team pages, launches, sales materials, and ongoing business visibility. It gives your business consistent content instead of random “I need something to post” panic.
-
You do not need to arrive with a complete shot list or know exactly what to ask for.
During the consultation, we look at where your business is visible, what you need to communicate, who you are trying to reach, and how the content will actually be used.
From there, I help plan a useful image and video library for your website, social media, Google Business Profile, email marketing, press, speaking, launches, proposals, and other real business needs.
-
Branding Content is valuable for entrepreneurs, professionals, service providers, consultants, teams, restaurants, wellness businesses, and companies that need stronger visibility and more consistent marketing.
If people research you before they contact you, your visual content matters.
-
Yes. Branding Content may include short-form video, reels, commercial-style clips, behind-the-scenes content, product or service features, and other video assets designed for websites, social media, Google Business Profile, email marketing, and ongoing business visibility.
-
Branding Content projects may include consultation, content planning, location planning, wardrobe or styling guidance, photography, short-form video, image selection, and delivery of visual assets created for specific platforms and marketing needs.
Every project is shaped around what your business needs to communicate and how the content will actually be used.
-
Branding Content and Visual Marketing Systems are custom quoted because every business needs different assets, locations, usage, and planning. Projects begin at $990. Request a Consultation here so we can clarify what you need and what kind of content library makes sense for your business.
Artwork, Images & Investment
-
Yes. Digital files are available for professional headshots, Branding Content, and Generations Family Portraits.
Business clients generally use their images for websites, social media, Google Business Profile, press, speaking, email marketing, and other professional uses.
Family clients may choose digital images, heirloom wall art, legacy albums, or a combination of these.
-
No. There is no minimum product purchase.
Session fees are separate from artwork, image, and content purchases. After seeing your images, you choose what feels useful, meaningful, and worth owning.
I guide you through the options so you can make a thoughtful decision without being pressured into purchasing more than you need.
-
Investment depends on the type of session and how the images or content will be used.
Professional headshot clients typically invest between $600 and $1,200. Branding Content projects begin at $990 and are custom quoted. Generations Family Portrait clients typically invest around $1,200 or more, depending on the artwork, legacy albums, and image selections they choose.
-
I accept all major credit and debit cards, processed securely through my payment system.
-
The retainer is non-refundable because it reserves your session date and begins the planning process. If you need to reschedule and provide written notice at least 48 hours before your session, the retainer may be applied to a new date within the same calendar year, subject to availability.
Planning & Logistics
-
It is best to request a consultation as soon as you know you need portraits or Branding Content.
Professional headshots may require less lead time. Branding projects, large family sessions, specific locations, hair and makeup, travel schedules, and sessions involving several households usually require more advance planning.
Availability varies, so earlier is always better when you have an important date in mind.
-
Your session date is reserved after the consultation, signed agreement, and initial non-refundable retainer have been completed.
A date is not held until those steps are finished. This allows us to confirm the session details and make sure the time is properly set aside for you.
-
Weather is part of working on O‘ahu, so flexibility is built into the planning process. If weather affects an outdoor session, we may adjust timing, shift locations, use covered or indoor options, or reschedule when needed. The goal is to create strong images without forcing a session in conditions that do not serve the work.
-
Biz Kellam Photography is based on O‘ahu and serves Honolulu and communities throughout the island. Sessions may take place at your home, office, business, resort property, or another location that supports the purpose of the portraits or content being created.
